Gili Shark Conservation is a marine conservation program based on Gili Air that is working in conjunction with the NGO Gili Matra Bersama in order to help protect and restore the reef ecosystem within the Gili Matra Marine Recreational Reserve. They also are leading the movement to create the first recognized shark nursery ground in Indonesia by 2025.
The program has been using a range of research methods to in order to build the a database to actively encourage greater conservation of sea turtles, sharks and the wider coral reef ecosystem since 2015. In 2023 GSC partnered with Conservation Diver in order to unite the islands conservation efforts, standardise the research methodologies and becoming part of the wider Conservation Diver Network.
