Plastic Pollution: Monitoring & Assessment
Despite the vast oceans, global plastic pollution is a growing issue, impacting even remote islands. Approximately 8 million tons of plastic enter our oceans each year due to rising plastic production. This course educates students about the problem’s scale, main contributors, and its impact on the ocean. Students will learn survey techniques to monitor microplastics and actively protect the reef ecosystem by removing macroplastics.
Understand the primary reasons for plastics entering the oceans and the problem of marine debris.
Be aware of ways to reduce plastic consumption and its impact on the environment.
Learn about worldwide plastic production issues and their link to environmental concerns.
Recognize how plastics can harm wildlife, particularly coral reef ecosystems.
