This can be a challenge if you have customer orders and then an agreement is terminated unexpectedly. In the consulting world, projects are expected to end and often be hired full-time. My goal has always been to fill that gap, but that`s fine when I have time to fill my own void for the lost project. I had clients who were a few days late to pay a bill up to a few weeks. The worst case was almost six months. Because of my accounting method, I had already paid taxes on it, and it was not a negligible sum. (Make sure you`ve studied the pros and cons of accounting methods before you start!) Your agreements are always written. Create a contract and have both parties sign the contract (both you and your client). All changes to the agreement must take the form of written amendments or, at the very least, an email affining the changes made.

Again, a customer agreement doesn`t have to be complicated to be effective. There are, however, some things that any good treaty should include. In practice, the “contract” and “agreement” sometimes deal with slightly different things. For example, a “treaty” may refer to a more rigid and legally binding document than an “agreement”. Do you want to get paid for your work? So, do not neglect the most critical element of a customer contract: the terms of payment. By setting the agreed terms in a written contract, you increase your ability to prevent misunderstandings from the outset and prevent disagreements from escalating in the event of a misunderstanding. For example, if a customer feels that a service has not been provided as you promised, you can simply send it back to the written terms of your agreement to resolve the issue before a dispute arises. Does the proverb “My word is my attachment” mean anything? This is the case for me and for many others, but unfortunately it is not enough. Oral agreements should be seen as the first step in a new customer engagement, but they are not the end of everything, let them be everything. Should your customer agreement look professional and easy to understand? Of course. But these qualities should apply to more than just your freelance contract.
