Become a trainer for the Ecological Monitoring Program (EMP) and start certifying students in this scientifically based reef ecology and research course.

In this program you will:

  • Learn about coral reef ecology and coral anatomy
  • Understand and practice taking data underwater along a transect line
  • Assess the biodiversity and abundance of fish and invertebrate indicator species
  • Assess the abundance and health of corals and other benthic organisms
  • Learn to identify corals by growth forms and genera
  • Identify and record coral diseases and compromised health states
  • Learn additional research techniques such as phototransects, quadrants, and more

This will allow you to collect data and contribute to a 13 year database for Koh Tao, as well as train and certify new students in the program.

To apply, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a current professional diver: divemaster/dive con or higher (PADI, SSI, RAID, BSAC, etc.)
  • Have dive insurance
  • Be proficient in the English Language

    • 6 lectures/theory development sessions
    • 5 training dives + 1 Evaluation Dive

  • Availability
    • Courses are taught Mondays and Tuesdays: candidates may come as they wish until they have fulfilled the complete course requirements
    • Courses will begin August 5th and run till October 15th

    • Training Course – 10,500 THB
    • Certification (Renewed Yearly) – $75 USD (Approx. 2,390 THB)
